The Western Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta bellii) is the largest and most vividly colored subspecies of the painted turtle group. Native to the central and western United States and parts of southern Canada, this aquatic turtle is known for its bright red plastron, olive shell with colorful markings, and easygoing temperament. It thrives in shallow ponds, lakes, and slow-moving rivers, and is a favorite among hobbyists for both its beauty and hardiness.
