The Map Turtles (Graptemys Pseudogeographica Kohni) we have for sale are turtles that get their name not from the great state of Mississippi but rather from the mighty Mississippi river and its waterways. The waters it inhabits in the wild run from Illinois in the north to the southern Gulf States like Mississippi and Texas. Map turtles have great personalities and love tanks with lots of plants and structures to use as their shelter. They are known to be a very hardy and an easy turtle to keep, making them a perfect beginner turtle. These turtles are great swimmers and love basking. Preferred water temperatures are in the low-80s Fahrenheit. Basking temperatures should be kept between the high-80s and mid-90s Fahrenheit. As with most all aquatic water turtles, Map turtles are mostly carnivorous as hatchling turtles and become more herbivorous as they age. In the wild they really enjoy eating worms, small fish, vegetation, tadpoles, crayfish, insects and insect larvae. In captivity they love being feed turtle pellets, worms, cut up fish, freeze dried meal worms and green leaf lettuce. However with that said you must remember to feed all your turtles a variety of different foods.
