Agrionemys horsfieldiiRussian Tortoises are often known by other names – Steppe Tortoise, Afghanistan Tortoise, Russian Box Turtle – but, regardless of what you call them, they are beautiful and interesting tortoises. In their natural habitats, Russian Tortoises are most commonly found in sand and clay deserts where grasses and bushes are sparse. This is a nice species for keepers interested in a smaller tortoise. The adults will not grow to be much larger than 8 in. Russian Tortoises are very adaptable and quite hardy, too. Russian Tortoises are herbivores that love broad, leafy plants and a variety of weeds. Russian Tortoises also need water to thrive. Russian Tortoises required detailed care and an understanding of the environments they require.
