The Red-Eared Slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) is one of the most popular and recognizable freshwater turtles in the world. Named for the distinctive red stripe behind each eye, this active and intelligent species is native to the central and southern United States. Red-Eared Sliders are excellent swimmers, enthusiastic baskers, and curious explorers that thrive in spacious aquatic habitats with clean, filtered water and proper UVB lighting. With proper care, they make rewarding companions for decades.
