This New Guinea Side-neck Turtle is a unique turtle whose head folds under its shell and to the side, rather than retracting inward. This is a unique and beautiful species and this particular turtle is an adult, measuring around 6-8 inches. The New Guinea Side-neck Turtle will typically feed at night and spend the daytime hours basking and warming itself. These turtles are known to withstand severe droughts (but, keeping them in a dry habitat is not recommended!). Sometimes, their necks can be as long as their entire shells!
